That Girl In Yellow Boots
7/10

Direction:****
That Girl In Yellow Boots is not a typical Masala hindi film. It speaks the cult language that Anurag Kashyap is best known for. The screenplay lets the viewer stuck to his seat and anticipate what is going to happen next. This film is Anurag Kashyap’s best film till date in terms of narrative and story telling. Both Anurag and Kalki who has co written the film presents a tale which is compelling and complicated in a unique way.

Performance:****
That Girl In The Yellow Boots is filled with top notch exceptional performances, with Kalki taking the cake away as the show stealer in the film. Kalki suits the character of a stylish, sensible clever British girl who earns a living by working in a massage parlour. She has an onscreen presence by which she carries an entire film on her shoulders with a scintillating performance.
One of the legends of Bollywood, Naseeruddin Shah adds value and reverence to the character he plays. Prashant Prakash, who plays Kalki's oversexed drug addict lover boy has also acted well. Gulshan Devaiya is carries off his part brilliantly. The actress portraying the role of a vivacious chatterbox in charge of the massage parlor is excellent. Kumud Mishra, Shiv Subramaniam, Makrand Deshpande, Ronit Roy, Piyush

Mishra, Rajat Kapoor and Divya Jagdale have done justice to their parts in the film.

Script:***
The film has a strong content and the script. It never loses the focus of the viewer. There is never a dull moment. That Girl In A Yellow Boots is a story of Ruth ( Kalki Koechlin), an illegal immigrant in Mumbai, refuses to return to England unless she finds her father, an Indian who abandoned the family when she was a kid. She works in a massage parlour for her upkeep and tries her best to fend off the local goons who want to take advantage of her situation. With a drug addict as a boyfriend, life doesn't seem too much of comfort, except for the presence of the avuncular Naseeruddin Shah, one of her regular customers. Does Ruth manage to find her father? The film is a captivating journey which takes a viewer in a different world.

Verdict:
On the whole, THAT GIRL IN YELLOW BOOTS is yet another example of out of the box cinema. This Anurag Kashyap film caters to a more mature, cinema literate audience. The film does not have huge stars but it is an outstanding story to tell. The film is surely recommended to watch if you want to experience different type of cinema.
